Grillo’s Pickles

The Grillo’s team came to us with a clear problem. Anyone familiar with Grillo’s pickles is surely in love with them but also painfully familiar with the container leaking brine. The incumbent package did not have a liquid-tight seal, and consumers were not shy with their feedback.

So, Grillo’s engaged with Berry and Blue Clover to develop a custom package design to solve their problem and elevate the brand experience. We brought all the stakeholders together for an onsite ideation workshop where concepts were generated through hand sketching, developed in CAD, and fabricated via rapid prototyping. This start got us on a focused path for refinement and development of a final solution.

The result is a nestable threaded clarified polypropylene IML container which pairs with a Berry stock 110mm closure equipped with a foam liner. Not only does has the new package solved the leaking problem, it has taken the Grillo’s consumer community by storm with its unique custom design and enhanced user experience.
